SFHR, Newgarden Strive for Continued Success in Toronto

Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) will look to build on Josef Newgarden’s recent second- and eighth-place finishes at Verizon IndyCar Series oval tracks as the team crosses the American border for the Honda Indy Toronto doubleheader July 19-20.

Newgarden sits 15th in championship points and is focused on continuing his team’s recent streak of good fortune – this time on a street circuit.

“We have to keep focusing on what’s in our control,” Newgarden said. “It seems like we have some positive momentum going, so we want to keep it that way. We’re not doing anything different than we were earlier in the season, and we don’t need to do anything different. Hopefully we continue to see reflective results.”

The 11-turn, 1.75-mile temporary street circuit through Toronto’s Exhibition Place is the final street race and doubleheader event of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar season. With only six races remaining in the schedule, Newgarden is concentrating on the details that will help SFHR make the most of back-to-back 85-lap races Saturday and Sunday in Canada’s largest city.

“Toronto has a lot of concrete on every apex, which makes it pretty slippery and tricky to try and set up the car,” Newgarden said. “You want to be able to just float through the corner because of the concrete. Trying to achieve the balance at which you do that is the goal.”

The Sao Paulo Indy 300 in Brazil was removed from the 2014 Verizon IndyCar schedule, making the Toronto event the only race outside of the U.S. this year.

“It’s exciting for IndyCar to be heading out of America,” Newgarden said. “There are a lot of IndyCar fans in the area that understand the history. Its nostalgic and one of the most prestigious street course races in series history.”

To see Newgarden’s No. 67 Hartman Oil Dallara/Honda/Firestone car on the Streets of Toronto, tune into NBC Sports Network at 3 p.m. (ET) Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20. Both races also will air on IMS Radio Network on channels XM 209 and Sirius 213.
