– After finishing 1-2 in the most recent race in Toronto, today’s race at Auto Club Speedway was the opposite end of the spectrum for CFH Racing. Teammates Ed Carpenter and Josef Newgarden were involved in their own two-car accident, ending both of their races at the same time. Newgarden was credited with a 21st place result; Carpenter finished in the 22nd position.

– Carpenter started the race from the 4th position in his No. 20 Fuzzy’s Award Winning Vodka Chevrolet, his career best qualifying effort at the 2-mile oval. Newgarden rolled the No. 67 Hartman Oil Chevrolet off from the 12th position for what was one of three 500-mile races this season. Carpenter quickly moved into the Top 5, engaging in several three- and four-wide battles lap after lap that had him running as high as third.

– On Lap 110, Carpenter took the lead of the MAVTV 500, the first lap he had led of the 2015 season.

– The CFH Racing drivers had made three pit stops before the first caution of the race came out on Lap 136, allowing Carpenter and Newgarden to make their fourth stops under the yellow flag. Both the No. 20 and No. 67 crews were impressive, gaining their drivers multiple positions: Carpenter moved from 8th to 5th and Newgarden improved from 16th to 12th.

– On Lap 158, Carpenter was running just ahead of Newgarden. He was pushed up the track by another competitor, directly into Newgarden who was running on his outside. Both cars went into the wall, but Carpenter and Newgarden climbed from their cars under their own power and were uninjured in the accident.

– With Newgarden being the team’s only full-season driver, the No. 67 Hartman Oil crew repaired the car enough to complete one more lap, moving Newgarden ahead of Carpenter in the results and gaining him an additional point.

– Carpenter, the only owner-driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series, has competed in the three oval events this season. None of the races have been kind to Carpenter, with an accident during the Indianapolis 500, a mechanical failure in Texas and today’s incident with Newgarden. Three additional oval races remain on the 2015 schedule, including the next two events.

– Despite today’s result, 24-year-old Newgarden is having a career-best season since joining the Verizon IndyCar Series four years ago, capturing two wins in seven races. His victory at Barber Motorsports Park in late April was the first of his IndyCar career.

– With his win two weeks ago in Toronto, Newgarden joined Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Dixon as two-time winners through 11 races this season. CFH Racing is now ranked with Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing as the only teams with multiple victories in so far in 2015.

– CFH Racing team members will enjoy the 4th of July holiday weekend at home and will return to the track in two weeks at the Milwaukee Mile. The 2015 ABC Supply Wisconsin 250 will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 12.

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 67 HARTMAN OIL CHEVROLET, FINISHED 21ST: “I just ran out of room. I think Ed was hearing one thing from his spotter, he just washed up into Lane 4 and we ran into the wall. It’s unfortunate because you don’t want to have both cars out of the race. If it was just one of us it would be better, but we just got together with probably a little bit of miscommunication on what was going on. Everyone was using four lanes, It’s a lot of tight quarters, it was dicey racing so we just got together and kind of got caught out.

ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 FUZZY’S VODKA CHEVROLET, FINISHED 22ND: “I don’t even remember who I was racing with, it was getting so jumbled up there. I went to the bottom and thought I was going to be able to go to the third lane. Someone shoved me to the second lane where I got understeer and started going up the track. I was just letting it go up the track because I assumed I was clear, I wasn’t hearing anything on the radio. It doesn’t get much worse than taking out your teammate and crashing both team cars. I should have lifted and left more room up there but I didn’t even know anyone was even coming, I didn’t have that information. I am pretty bummed out about it. We had a good car, ran up front all day and I would have been there at the end.”
