BRET SCHMITT, Chief Mechanic

The Jasper, Ind., native returned working for driver Ed Carpenter in 2012. Schmitt spent six seasons associated with Carpenter and Vision Racing as Carpenter made the move from the Firestone Indy Lights to the IZOD IndyCar Series. Schmitt began his IndyCar racing in 2001 with Mo Nunn Racing.

Schmitt, 42, holds the position of coordinating all activities regarding the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet Dallara IndyCar. Bret works in concert with the engineering staff and the other race mechanics to prepare and manage the team’s primary and backup chassis.

Schmitt also was part of the Panther Racing crew in 2004 before joining Vision Racing in 2005. For the past two seasons, Schmitt has been the chief mechanic at KV Racing Technology.

Schmitt also the lead member of the “over the wall” pit crew, changing the outside front tire and directing Carpenter out of the pit area.
